Leopard a First Look.
Last night rebuilt my Mac book Pro with leopard, a very painless exercise. First new and amazing feature, the welcome movie is now full screen! The OS UI has been tweaked every so slightly notably making the top bar slightly transparent and the dock is now a bit shiny and a bit slanty. Your probably realising that the new features are a bit weak so i'll list them:
Leopard is definitely better though worth shelling out £85 for erm, no! But get it in perspective OSX 10.4 was a hugely better experience than Vista so 10.5 is made the gap even bigger. Micro$oft need to have a good rethink IMHO.
- New Dock: more slanty and more shiny!
- New top bar: slightly transparent
- Making it hard to read items if your backdrop is light at the top!
- New icons: the folder icons have been changed
- Ichat can condolidate buddies with multiple accounts
- If you have your googletalk account also connecting to MSN, Yahoo, AIM & ICQ etc. Using the Jabber gateway method set up using PSI. You can consolidate buddies with multiple accounts (i.e. A Jabber, MSN & yahoo so they only appear once in your list) by right clicking on the buddy clicking get profile and selecting the buddy from your address book (create one if their not there already). Do this with all thier account and no they will only appear once and you should have presence info in your Address book too.
- Ichat AV works across googletalk
- Successfully made a Ichat video call to Darren, this feature didn't work though was present in 10.4 (so this is a bug fix)
- Spaces, feature that enabled four virtual desktops like KDE has had since 1994
- Just Found Address book now has a de-duplication feature
- This is great inconjunction with Plaxo, for your Mobile <-> Mac <-> Plaxo <-> Google synchronisation.
Leopard is definitely better though worth shelling out £85 for erm, no! But get it in perspective OSX 10.4 was a hugely better experience than Vista so 10.5 is made the gap even bigger. Micro$oft need to have a good rethink IMHO.
Details of how to get your Googletalk to connect to your msn yahoo account is here and a list of public Jabbers servers (required for the gateway services) are here
