All hail the Jesus phone
Oddly the same day I post my MacBook pro to it's lucky new owner:(. My 2g iPhone arrives in the post. Bit of an inplanned purchase this, bought in a shock eBay bargain moment. I wanted to replace my BT Anywhere HTC620 because as I have said before Windows mobile is terrible.
Anyway once I had my new iPhone all I had to do was upgrade it to 2.1 and unlock it. This turned out to be slightly more fiddly than the interweb will have you believe.
The iphone dev team have released a windows version of their quickpwn tool which allows you to unlock and jailbrake 2.1 2g iPhones. I tried this ran the tool according to instructions, also trying a number of solutions suggested on some forums. All of which failed and failed at the same point.
Problem: when getting to the screen that guides you through putting the iphone in DFU mode it would just sit there doing nothing. Saying it was preparing the phone.
Solution: After much faffing about i managed to get the QuickPwn21-1 to work every time
The Tool clearly states its still in beta so if you get stuck try another machine!
iPhone all unlocked, the Iphone is awesome I wrote all the text of this post using the iphone wordpress app, v cool. Microsoft you should take note, the step up from windows mobile is like you have been taken forward a decade in technology. Now must gets some films on it.

Worth noting here my machines are all windows XP sp3 ( Tiny XP rev09 ) with Avast or Clam AV
- Ensure you have .net 2 installed, if not install it [Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2.0 Redistributable Package (x86)] ( no reboot required )
- Several posts indicate you need .net 1 and .net 3 or one or the other you don't!
- Make sure you have itunes 8.0.1 installed if not install it and then reboot.
- Download QuickPwn21-1 from [Iphone Dev Team]
- Obtain the bootloaders [can be downloaded from [here]
- Run through the tool bish bosh,,,,,,,, or not oddly my problem occurs every time on my Dell M1530 but never on a Latitude D620 or D600
